Love Young Adult Lit? Check these out! I did, and it was time well spent!!!

2012 Reads

I. Becca Fitzpatrick’s ‘hush, hush’ series (PG-14)

Fast paced, suspense, a bit of a thriller, a fallen angel romance
-In my opinion, “Un-put-down able.” *J.E. Wagner

1. ‘hush, hush’
2. Crescendo
3. Silence

II. Colleen Houck’s Tiger Series (PG)

A romantically innocent adventure, high school grad. meets India Princes and thus begins an Indiana Jones-like adventure
-In my opinion, AMAZING. * J.E. Wagner

1. Tiger’s Curse
2. Tiger’s Quest
3. Tiger’s Voyage

III. Maggie Stiefvater’s Wolves of Mercy Falls Series (PG-13)

Story told from alternating points of view, touching, supernatural romance,
-In my opinion, if you enjoyed the Bella/Edward romance of Twilight, check these books out. It’s different, but different in a good way. *J.E. Wagner

1. Shiver
2. Linger
3. Forever

IV. Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me (PG-14) (Debut Novel)

Fast-Paced, semi-dystopian themed, paranormal sci-fi fantasy, poetically written, steamy PG-14 romance scenes (not intended for readers under age 14)
-In my opinion, poetic, unique, artistic for a debut novel. * J.E. Wagner
V. Veronica Roth’s Divergent (PG) (Debut Novel)

Dystopian themed, fast-paced,
-In my opinion, an addicting read that kept me wanting to learn more; an excellently written story for a 22 year old debut author; less violent than The Hunger Games, and perhaps a more intriguing story. * J.E. Wagner

VI. Lauren DeStefano’s Wither (Chemical Garden) (Age 17 and up) (Debut Novel)

Dystopian tale, brief adult content in regards to situation being told, semi-fast paced, new ideas
-This book hooked me in at the beginning, constantly wanting to know what would happen and whether or not Rhine would survive or escape. I am anxious to read the second book, which comes out Feb. 2012.

  • I just finished Divergent last night– AMAZING!!! With books like this one, I wonder how the Hunger Games is so popular– in my opinion, this is a better book by FAR. The main character -Tris- was so relatable. I loved the description and I felt like I could really feel Tris’ emotions. She’s a great character– not all good, not all bad. Her emotions vary, like any sixteen year old girl, but in their own way are consistent. Veronica Roth is an amazing writer– can’t wait for her next book!

    • I too LOVED this book. The next one comes out in just a few days!!! And, I am sooooo eager to read it! I thought it was way better than The Hunger Games and I loved Tris’ character!! I too was able to relate to her far more than I was to Katniss.

I would suggest you check out Ally Condie’s book Matched and the sequel is Crossed. They are somewhat similar to Divergent in a few ways. 🙂

  • Would LOVE to hear from YOU!!
